"Yellow Roses" |
by Sunnyone |
She was in a room with yellow roses by her bed... Upon the door a sign, "Do Not Disturb", is what it said... She saw me there and whispered, "Please come over here, my child... just sit right down and stay a little while..." I looked upon this lady who had been my guiding light... had taught me how to love, and also taught me wrong from right... She looked so frail and helpless lying in that big old bed... But her voice was strong, as this to me she said... "Granddaughter, I have watched you grow, and watched you laugh and cry... and there were times you met success, and then I watched you fly... I raised you as my very own, of me you are a part... You have a special place deep in my heart..." "My time has come, my life is done, and I must say good-bye... my days were full of love and I am not afraid to die... There's just one thing I'll ask of you, I know you'll understand.. With that, my Grandma squeezed my shaking hand... "You know I love my roses, and I've had them all my life... a yellow rose I wore the day that I became a wife... And as a child you helped me weed and water them with care... Our roses took blue ribbons at the fair!" "So, please child, take the yellow rosebush out there by the step... I'm asking you, because I know you'll see it's safely kept... Then after I am gone, please put no gravestone at my head... but plant my yellow rosebush there instead..." The years have flown on by, but I still visit Grandma's grave... I talk to her about the life of memories she gave... The yellow rosebush puts the sweetest fragrance in the air... Somehow, I know my Grandma's with me there... I love all of my roses, but the yellow ones are best... They seem to give me hope when life has put me to some test... Among the roses, Grandma's love still sparkles and surrounds... I know my Grandma's up there, smiling down... |
